1st Annual Silverton Challenge
24 hour, 48 hour,72 hour, 6 Day & 1000 Mile Challenge
Course Maps & Elevation Profiles
Like we did at Across The Years (
www.acrosstheyears.com), we will once again be building a track specifically for this event.
The nice this about this track is that 90% of the trail is on existing roads and pathways. All that we will have to do is to add some
rubble to the pathways and add one switchback at one juncture, to get our exact one mile distance. In addition to this, we will be
adding some benches, nature signs, and some historical markers along the way.
The pathway will start at the base of Kendall Mountain,
just 150 feet from the recreation center, follow the green ski run up the base of Kendall, wrap around the ski lift at the top above
the blue run, follow the black ski run all the way around to where a switchback will be put in, that connects to the Idaho Mine
Rd. From the Idaho Mine Rd, the pathway will connect with County Rd #2 for just a short period before wrapping back around
to the Kendall parking area and start/finish tent. The start/finish tent is a 60 foot by 70 foot structure (almost exactly like
the one we use at Across The Years) and will be set up in the area where the winter ice rink is located. This area will
double as an aid station as well as the timing area.
The footing on the pathway will mainly consist of granite rubble but some
areas will also be compacted dirt. Mud is unlikely but possible. Gaiters are definitely recommended. The trail will not be lit but
the tent and aid station area will be. All entrants will be responsible for their own lighting needs at night.
Porta potties
will be available for runners and spectators alike. Camping is allowed and designated areas will be marked. For additional information
